The Pontiac Firebird is a sports car that was manufactured by General Motors' Pontiac division from 1967 to 2002. The car was introduced in 1967 as a pony car, an American class of sports car, to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Firebird was built atop the same F-body platform as the Chevrolet Camaro, and was given a unique styling treatment by Pontiac designers. The most notable Firebird was the Trans Am, which was made famous by its appearance in the classic 1977 film Smokey and the Bandit.
