The Ducati 998 was a 998 cc, 90 degree L-twin sport bike motorcycle manufactured by Ducati between 2002 and 2006. It was the successor to the Ducati 996 and was the first of the new generation of Ducati Superbikes. The 998 is characterized by its desmodromic valve actuation, liquid-cooled engine and aluminum alloy frame. It also featured an advanced chassis design and top-of-the-line suspension components from Öhlins, Brembo and Marchesini. The 998 was available in three distinct models: the base 998, the higher-spec 998S (available in mono and bi-posto seating configurations), and the 998R, a limited-edition race replica.
