The Ducati 996 is a sportbike manufactured by Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. It was introduced in 1998 as the successor to the Ducati 916, sharing the same engine but with a new frame and styling. The 996 was designed by Pierre Terblanche and Massimo Tamburini and produced until the 2002 model year. It was Ducati's flagship model until the introduction of the 999 in 2003. The 996 was powered by a 996 cc, 4-valve, fuel-injected, water-cooled 90-degree V-twin engine which produces around 100 horsepower. The 996 has a six-speed transmission and a single-sided swingarm. It is considered to be an iconic motorcycle in Ducati's extensive lineup.
